MacRitchie Reservoir

Entranced by the beauty of the reservoir that day. This is kind of like a throwback here, visiting the reservoir made me feel as if I was one with nature. In Singapore, we live in an urbanized city. We don’t often see many types of animals walking around freely in the streets and most of the nature that is located in the areas were often touched and rearranged by mankind. Since the reservoir has a nature reserve, my friend and I took a 10km hike in the trail, looking out for nature which wasn’t shifted that much by the hands of humans.

In this country, I doubt we are able to find long stretches of beautiful nature, heck we don’t even have mountains here. If this place is the closest place that can bring me to all my hiking desires, then so be it.

So we were out there after a small shower of rain, I must say that season was a pretty hard time to catch a good weather. I’ve been there a few times and it was pouring cats and dogs, much to my dismay. But this time, I came prepared with disposable raincoats and a transparent ziplock bag for my phone, just in case I want to use it out in the rain.

This picture was taken right after the rain.

I feel so happy and pleased to be able to see stretches of green, clear waters and foliage enveloped around me. I’ve always loved nature trails as a kid, but some of them are hard to get to here since it isn’t frequented by many. This nature trail in MacRitchie never cease to impress me every time I go for a visit.

I mean, look at the treetop walk?

The view is stunning right? Oh and this is the moment where the incoming rain was about to hit us in a few minutes.

I’m so glad we brought raincoats. I repeat, always always bring raincoats. The last time when I was caught in a storm there my clothes were soaked wet and I looked like I jumped into a pool and came out drenched. It was freezing and we had to make so many stops at the huts there to regain our warmth for a bit. The trail in the rain was terrible as well, some of the sandy paths were flooded with water, leaving either little or no space for us to walk without getting our feet wet. Since it was raining and the ground was moist, gigantic centipedes love to come up to the surface and scare the shit out of you.

This centipede was longer then my finger

It was funny how everyone in the hut huddled around at the corner and here I was with about two other guys, trying to take a picture of this creepy thing.

Nonetheless, the nature trail is simply beautiful, so come prepared, spot the squirrels, be careful of the monkeys that are loafing around everywhere and DO NOT bring food.

The last time I tried to bring food this happened.

So yea I totally FORGOT that there were monkeys around the area.

Survival tip: Do not stare into its eyes or bare your teeth at a monkey.

Moving on, enjoy the scenery, the reptiles, animals and insects of the nature trail.
